What a year it’s been 3

At the start of January, Johnathan had a virus and then developed post viral syndrome which has taken a big toll on his body.  He went into hospital for a week to check everything they could and discovered he had scoliosis and one leg is shorter than the other and it has all impacted his mental health, which isn’t surprising at all with everything that’s gone on.

One of the difficulties is that last year was his last year at primary school.  As he is on the spectrum he was meant to get an enhanced transition, but of course with not having been there at all, he missed all of that.  I was trying to ensure things got moving, but as I am sure you know, it takes time to get everybody you need to contact together and communicating….not even mentioning days off or holidays which meant they weren’t around….

But eventually things have finally come together and 23 September 2026 now marks the very first time Johnathan was in school for one lesson.  I was well aware that things needed to be taken carefully and slowly and that he needs to build up to starting school and making a phased introduction to secondary school.

So glad to know that his very first lesson for 9 months went really well.  He was in the inclusion classroom and had a session with another girl on the spectrum that he has known most of his life.  It was wonderful that she was the one in the room with him because they were able to catch up together while they were working.

With everything that has happened, I am delighted that we have finally got him into school again.  It’s been a long time coming but everybody involved with him has recognised he needed help to get to where we are now.  I am delighted we have taken this massive step forward and he has completed one session in school again.

TREASURE

Well, the treasure in this post is the fact that after a long time of illness and recovery, Johnathan has finally made it into school and done one session!  He enjoyed it and we have achieved this goal at last!
