What a year it’s been 2

This year, as you have probably guessed by now has been quite something for the three of us.  All of us have been unwell at different times both physically and mentally.  One of the things that has really come home to me this year is how mental health can spiral downwards, especially when two people in the house are anxious and depressed.

Technically, of course, I knew that people with mental issues can impact each other, but it’s really been brought home to me this year.  And seeing it in action has made me understand just how important it is to deal with our mental health and not ignore what is going on because its impact has repercussions through the whole household.

We have three animals and they are all affected by the mood and change in atmosphere in the house.  They can’t tell what is wrong, but they KNOW that things are different.  Animals have a sixth sense where their owners are concerned and there is no way you can lie to them because they know.

Honestly?  Even though my mental health has had its ups and downs over the years, I still find it difficult to discuss it with medical people and in the end I ended up having to communicate with one of the general doctors I trust to do the right thing.  In fact, the feelings it brings up for me also mean that there is one receptionist I trust enough to allow her to know I need help.

The need for help can  be totally overwhelming and one night this year I ended up in bed crying about it and unable to express or process what was actually going on.  It took Kevin cuddling and comforting me so that I could understand and take the necessary action.

TREASURE

Mental health is extremely important but knowing how to express the feelings and see the help that is needed is very hard to do.
