Thoughts of the week 20
There’s been many thoughts this week actually. I have started writing another story, and I am trying to base it on the idea of showing and not telling the readers what is going on. The other thing I am wary of is putting the same information in different ways when it’s not actually necessary.
And this time the story is just, well, kind of there. I wasn’t even considering it as an idea. The whole thing just kind of started and I didn’t even know what I was going to write. Some of what I have written was a surprise even to me! The characters themselves are leading the way. It’s kind of a weird feeling because I know (in some ways) that it is ME writing the story but I don’t actually know what it is or where it will end up!
So that is fun, surprising and confusing and from what I have read of other authors, absolutely typical. I think this is the first time I have completely just gone with whatever comes next. It makes me think of Charles Dickens or Jane Austen, who used to write their stories in weekly instalments in either a paper or magazine. Not that I can imagine myself doing that, but I can see now HOW they did it.
Reading more again has been interesting. It has helped me to begin solidifying the ideas and the way I would love to express them. Writing takes time, but it is something I was born to do. So here comes the adventure of this new book.
TREASURE
Discovering that I found something surprising in what I wrote for this new book because I have no idea what is going to happen next. I’ll find out soon enough - when the characters tell me.
