Break to make

Kevin and I were watching a series about different chefs around the world.  They all have different theories about how to prepare and present food.  It’s been FASCINATING watching these people talking about HOW and WHY they became chefs and the formation of their philosophy about food and how that became what they are known for.

Of course, I know the creative process is different for everyone.  But that’s ok.  As you know, we are all individuals and so we view things in a different way and try to express that idea in a way that makes sense to us.  If we are true to what we are and how we think, people find it easy to grasp and understand.

I can’t remember exactly what this chef said his actual words were.  But basically, there were two people having the very LAST TWO pieces of a pie after a very long day.  The other chef was bringing them over and JUST before he put them on the serving area, he dropped one!  He actually admitted in the programme that it made him want to go and kill himself.

The main chef told him not to worry but get another plate.  The chef then studied how the broken one looked and made the whole piece look exactly the same.  Apparently it was FANTASTIC.  So thereby his concept of breaking the food to make the meal took shape.

TREASURE

Please don’t think you need to go and break things to make them up another way.  Sometimes the “traditional” or “old” ways ARE best. Other times it actually makes things better.  This time it was a “happy accident” that turned to the good.
