Values

In Johnathan’s school they have a list of character strengths they try to help each child understand and learn.  Johnathan will often say things and I realise he is quoting from the character strength that is being looked at that week.

Understanding and learning doesn’t come easy to most people.  in fact, it can be deeply unsettling.  I was so used to seeing life through one filter and one only that when it got smashed, I didn’t know if I was coming or going or where to go next and what to believe.

I was reading through the app notes that arrived today in my inbox.  This week they are looking at humour and how it can be used to help in different situations, but that if you’re not careful you could really upset someone.

And quite honestly what they are saying is true.  Not everybody likes the same humour - says she who doesn’t particularly enjoy watching some of the things Johnathan finds so hilarious.  Sometimes he will play me an advert and I will just look at him and ask him what it means…and I’ve already missed the humorous part.

One of the things recommended in the list of ideas that can be used to help support your children understand and use humour in a kind way is to find something that makes you smile.  And even just READING that made me smile.j

TREASURE

The mystery of being able to find something to smile about because we are all so different that it may be different for both you and me.
