Thoughts of the Week 27

As I am fast approaching my 51 birthday, my mind has began to think back over this past year and the things that have happened to me.  And how what appeared to be bad things turned out for good.  Guess in some ways it’s a bit like how people get in the New Year.  But I haven’t made any resolutions.  I’m just trying to carry on.

One of the greatest things I have discovered this year is the explanation of why I have so many problems with swallowing and breathing and a very quick loss of voice if something is wrong.  It can produce either symptoms that respond to asthma medication or reactions similar to anaphylaxis.  And there are certain foods, like beans and peas, that I simply cannot swallow because they stick in my throat.

It took 50 years of my life to discover the answer to it.  I saw a professor here in Scotland last year who told me I have a bone spar ACROSS the top of the larynx which is the cause of all the trouble.  He said he had done the surgeries to correct it for over 40 years and wouldn’t operate due to possible complications.  And it made me feel SO MUCH BETTER to know what causes these problems for me.

Although I hate being in hospital and will do everything I can to avoid it and end up having to stay in a ward, this last year I have been in a few times but NOT always due to falling.  However, every time I have been in, I have discovered something I could not have found any other way,

This year I have also had to admit that yes, I am disabled to an extent that i am not handling and NEED the extra care that has been provided to me and has been a real blessing to me and my family.  I wanted to believe I was coping, but I had to acknowledge to myself and others it wasn’t true.

TREASURE

My 50th year has been full of discoveries that have given me hope for the future.  They may seem weird to you, but are precious to me.  I might share some others with you before I turn 51.  I don’t know yet whether I want to or not.
