Pick of the week 15
You know I spoke to you a while back about what I THOUGHT was my new found love of etching. I mean, I vaguely remembered something about it in primary school and when I saw some on Amazon or Hobbycraft or wherever it was (can’t remember now) I had a vague feeling of peace and tranquility so I thought I would give it a try.
Actually, NO, it wasn’t that at all! I remember now. Kevin found a child’s book of etching on sale in Tesco and I saw Johnathan do a page and then I asked him if I could do some and when he saw how much I enjoyed it, he didn’t ask for it back. He was just “meh” over the idea whereas I was “WHY didn’t I remember this stuff? It’s SO MUCH FUN!” Johnathan told me it gave him great pleasure to just watch me.
You know what? I’ve discovered over the years that I might not enjoy many games on the wii or what have you but MOSTLY I have found it beautiful to observe Kevin and Johnathan playing it together. While I watch I can ask them questions about it or commenting on the game.
Many years ago, Kevin showed me this app called Silk and I did some artwork on it. I never knew how to describe it. In fact, I never even looked at the description OF the app in the app store! It was a strangely calming activity but at the time I didn’t really know how to think of it. I think its best description would probably be that it’s somewhat similar to etching but on an ipad.
So I showed a piece to Jamie to see and he thought they were really good. In fact, he wanted to see the lot of them. What I enjoyed about them was bringing creative form out of the darkness. And it’s that part of the creative process in etching that speaks to me the most.
If you’d like to see what I did back then, head on over to the shop and tell me what you think. I would so love to know if YOU enjoy looking at my artwork as much as me?
TREASURE
Returning to a particular art form again and again just goes to show that my love for this particular creative expression continues. Need to figure out how and where to fit it in my week.
