Yes, as you can guess, that’s something I am going to be writing about today.  I was going to put it in Thoughts of the Week because yes, they were, BUT I am sure we have all felt overwhelmed at some point in our lives.

Now, as you are no doubt well aware, there are ways you can deal with overwhelming feelings by doing something that shuts them out.  Or you can find ways to actually deal with the feelings themselves and tackle whatever it is that has actually overwhelmed you.  Alternatively, you can just give up and never do what you were planning on doing.

Actually, this week I have felt overwhelmed a lot of times, and have reacted in all THREE ways!  Yes, all in one week.  Made for a very up and down emotional time for me.  But in the end I actually sent a message to somebody I knew could help me and I am now starting on the project I was aiming for.

When I was a child, if I felt overwhelmed I would find a book to read and a place to hide to read it in.  Tackling whatever it was that caused it never even entered my thinking.  And I’m not saying it was the right thing to do - it wasn’t.

So now, as an adult, I need to learn what to do.  First thing, of course, is NOT to panic. Which I don’t know about you, but my mind tends to before I can even START whatever it is I need to.  Then closing your eyes and calming the breathing down so that thinking becomes clearer is essential.  After that, you can start thinking about where you can get the help to do whatever you need to do and ask for it.

The FINAL step is of course, the most important  - only look at ONE thing at a time and focus on completing it.  Then have a break and continue with the next and so on.

TREASURE

I can overcome overwhelming feelings by calming myself, finding someone to help and then tackle the situation one thing at a time and have a break between them all.
