Pick of the Week 15

Today I have decided I want to talk to you about self-care.  Sometimes it can be hard to understand that what you want to do isn’t ACTUALLY selfish, but self-care and looking after yourself, so you can be the best version of yourself possible.

I was watching Say Yes to the Dress (yes, I’m married, but looking at beautiful dresses is always lovely) and I love guessing what the bride will look good in and what she is going to choose.  Sometimes they don’t choose what THEY want but what somebody else tells them to get - generally a family member but sometimes friends as well.

Making a choice going against what the bride wants can be horrible to watch at times.  But other times it is ok.  You have to have confidence in either yourself or someone else to help you make the choice.  I remember when I was going around looking for a wedding dress, I was looking at some in department stores and thinking if I could just do this or that to a dress to “make do” on the day, I would.  Fortunately, my bridesmaid refused to allow me to do so and took me to a proper bridal salon in Glasgow and I trusted the fitters and what they chose for me.  And it was an excellent choice, thank goodness.

You see, when you’re feeling depressed, one of the hardest (and most necessary) things to do is take care of yourself.  Because your opinion of yourself and how you are functioning is so low that you just can’t see any reason or have any inclination to do anything good for yourself.  Even the THOUGHT of doing so can be too much and can make you just want to sleep the whole thing away.

TREASURE

To get the courage and energy to get up and take care of yourself isn’t always easy, but looking after yourself ALWAYS pays off and it’s not being selfish to do so.
