Facing Mental Health

One of the most frustrating things I find when dealing with mental health and other people is when they tell you to “just change perspective and think differently.”  I can assure you that if it was that easy, then the person having these challenges would have done it already!

You might think that mental health isn’t as important as physical, but actually, I believe it can be even more important.  Partly, I think, it’s the attitude people have that you can just stop thinking about it, or just get on with your life and stop bothering them.

However, having suffered mental health issues for many years, I can tell you, it’s not as simple as that.  I would have LOVED it if it was!  And the other thing is, when you are struggling, it’s very hard to get medical help because you just don’t have the energy or inclination to do so and sometimes you worry about what people will say/think.

When you’ve got something physically wrong with you, everybody expects you to get medical help.  But with mental health issues, actually, they could be the main contributing or significant factor in your physical health problems.

Even therapists are told that they need to make sure THEY get therapy while they are giving other people advice about the challenges they face.  It’s not something to be ashamed of - but something that is a help to your physical and emotional health as well.

TREASURE

Getting help for your mental wellbeing is never wrong.  Never be afraid to do so.
