Thoughts of the week 36

I often watch the Olympics in the summer time on the tv and have thoroughly enjoyed doing so for most of my life.  It’s not often I watch the winter one particularly but I STILL remember watching Torvill and Dean winning in the 80s.  I always felt that ice skating had so much beauty and to see two skaters moving almost like one was mesmerising for me as a young child.

However, because Johnathan has been so poorly this year, i’ve ended up watching a LOT of the winter games.  And I’ve found it really enjoyable.  Not that I can understand the passion for some of the disciplines, but I can see why other people do.

Let’s face it - the truth is, I have never been a sporty person.  I remember being told that you cannot miss serving in tennis if you hold the ball directly over the racket, drop it on top and hit it.  Well…..I missed.  Ten times!  My eye-hand co-ordination is not the best and I’ll be the first one to admit it.

One of the things about being an Olympian (whether you win or not) is that you have to be totally dedicated to whatever sport you choose to do.  Being single minded in this way is a great thing, but is something I have struggled with for as long as I can remember.  OK, let me redefine that for you, I am a writer and will always be a writer, but I write SO MANY different things and it’s hard for me to focus on one thing or subject in particular.

TREASURE

Everybody has a talent for something.  I don’t care who you are or where you come from.  Finding it and applying yourself to it is a wonderful thing, but if you need variation in what you do, that’s ok too.  We are all unique and the world would be awful if we were all the same.
