Thoughts of the week 32

I don’t really know what to say!  Actually I feel a bit speechless (writerless) I guess you’d say.  After updating the website my readership has increased dramatically!  It’s lovely to know that so many people have come to see what I am doing.  And it goes to show that “window dressing” analogy is correct.

Truthfully, this wasn’t all that I wanted to talk about, but I couldn’t resist the chance to mention it and thank all you lovely readers for looking at what I am doing and finding out about me and my family.  I mean, I know I am a writer and knew I was from a young age, but this has exceeded all my expectations.

Anyway, the thoughts that have been occupying my mind this week are really about neurodiversity.  Johnathan has joined the diversity group at his school and wants to help raise awareness of neurodiversity in particular because it is so underrepresented and misunderstood.

I think there are a few blocks to understanding neurodiversity actually.  Some of them are old conceptions from the past - such as girls can’t be on the autistic spectrum.  Erm, yes, they can.  In fact, one of the girls in Johnathan’s year is and they get on well with each other.

Other misconceptions are based on lack of understanding the conditions themselves.  For example, a few years ago I had no idea that the presentation of ADHD in girls and boys is different, just like autism is.  Johnathan was also telling me that even though it had been assumed SPD (sensory processing disorder) was only related to autism, they are thinking actually it could also be related to other neurodivergent conditions as well.

TREASURE

Updating my website has increased the number of visitors I am getting.  The awareness of neurodiversity is increasing and more connections about them are being made.
