Thoughts of the Week 29

I don’t think you’ll be surprised to hear that transitions are on my mind at the moment.  Sometimes there are big transitions, like your child’s first step, which is something that they learn to accomplish without you really teaching them.  And, of course there are big transitions that are “forced” on you by either circumstances or the need to go to school, college, whatever.

And then we have the small transitions such as moving from breakfast to activity, or activity to getting ready to leave the house - things like that which would SEEM simple and easy, but when you have a baby (and they fill their nappy or are sick just as you’re about to leave the house) or a child is autistic, even simple things can become exceedingly complex.

With Johnathan facing moving on from Primary to secondary, obviously we want what is best for HIM.  We were very careful to be sure to choose the “best fit” school for his younger years and now it’s time for us to ensure we get the best place and support we can for his later school life.

I look back at certain (apparently) simple transitions that took time with Johnathan for various reasons, like I hadn’t warned him, or things changed at the last minute - whatever the problem was, it basically delayed us.  It doesn’t matter how prepared you are life can interfere.

But whether life interferes or not, it doesn’t matter.  We have to adjust and change to every transition that comes whether planned or unplanned, simple or complex, life changing, or just a short time.

TREASURE

Change comes and it’s ok because I know that I can transition if I give myself time to do so, no matter what it brings with it.
