News in a Nutshell 27
Do you know the saying that you feel like you’ve just had a week and a half of it? To me, it signifies that I have felt overwhelmed, exhausted, head spinning, decision fatigueand I just want life to stop for a bit so that I can take a breather in order to enable me to keep going.
Our week was like that because I felt everything was on top of me and I had far too many decisions to make. Unfortunately Kevin has been exceedingly unwell and I have been keeping an eye on him, getting him medical treatment when he needed and checking on all his numbers to give me some kind of idea of when and whether he was on the journey back to health again. I can’t say he’s there yet (far from it still, in fact) but is now back to beginning to eat again and returning back to family life and his stats go back to his normal
Truthfully, the last time I think he was as poorly as he has been was when he and Johnathan had the flu in 2015. Kevin got sick on 23 December and Johnathan came down with it on 24th. No way was I eating Christmas dinner alone! This illness has totally knocked him but hopefully he will be able to return to work before the end of the week.
It wasn’t easy to see Kevin so poorly, but you know what? We have all survived. Yes, I have had to organise extra help and support, but Johnathan has made it to school each day, and got to play with a friend. In spite of being exhausted and my legs becoming extremely shaky I haven’t fallen (due to using the lifeglider or carer help) when I needed to move.
I hadn’t realised but one of the carers actually trained as a chef and has made a few meals for us and in spite of the scarcity of ingredients and spices in our kitchen cupboards, she created extremely tasty dishes. The home cooked meals have been amazing. I had forgotten how much of an impact they can make on your health mentally, physically and emotionally. I am still in one piece and my brain power is returning once again.
TREASURE
Even when things appear to be impossible, there is always some way to find an answer and manage. I can get through the bad times because I know I have done so before.
