Catch up really in some ways
Well, I guess this is a kind of catch up with you all…it’s not really news of the week because of what I’m going to focus on. I don’t remember if I’ve told you I have had many falls over the years.
There are two really big falls I remember as a very young child (either 3 or 4 years old) and both of them happened on a beach. Hm, maybe there IS a reason I don’t really like beaches. Having sand in your mouth from a fall is extremely unpleasant and trying to get it out is worse!
Anyway, looking back I would say I have had a history of falls all my life and some years have been worse than others. And I think after I moved to Scotland the falls got more frequent, but I never broke anything until February this year. Shame they missed the break in my right hand in the first x-rays.
However, since being in hospital, I had to agree to have carers come in 4 times a day to help me up with personal care and support me getting around the house in my Lifeglider. It’s great because once I’m strapped in it, I can’t fall over, BUT it is big and I can’t get to quite a few areas in my house either due to the size or the restriction of the belt which keeps me safe.
AND I have NOT fallen now for over 5 months, which I think is actually a record for me (certainly since I moved up to Scotland anyway, even if not before). I was talking to Kevin about it today and he was saying that he thinks it has taken me time to not only come to terms with needing carers but the fact that doing so and using the Lifeglider has kept me safe from falling over. I have to admit he is right.
TREASURE
When I accept and use the help and equipment necessary for my multiple medical needs, I don’t fall over.
